Shortly after the events of Avengers: Endgame,[1][2] Peter Parker goes on a school trip to Europe with his friends. While abroad, he is recruited by Nick Fury to team up with Mysterio to battle the Elementals.[3][4]Cast
- Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man: A teenager and Avenger who received spider-like abilities after being bitten by a genetically-modified spider.[5] Director Jon Watts says that in contrast to Spider-Man: Homecoming, in which Parker longs for the responsibilities of an adult, in Far From Home, he wants to hang onto his youth, saying, "This film is about the world telling him, 'It's time for you to step up and grow up, kid,' and he's saying, 'But I still want to be a kid and go on vacation.'"[6]
- Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury: The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D.[7] Watts describes Fury's relationship with Parker as "the mean new stepdad", contrasting his role with Tony Stark's "supportive cool uncle" in Homecoming, saying, "Fury doesn't see himself in Peter Parker. Fury sees Peter Parker as an asset that he needs who is too preoccupied with a bunch of high school problems." Watts originally pitched Homecoming using Fury as a mentor to Parker.[8]
- Zendaya as Michelle "MJ" Jones: One of Parker's classmates whom he becomes attracted to.[9]
- Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill: A former high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Nick Fury.[7]
- Jon Favreau as Harold "Happy" Hogan: The head of security for Stark Industries who looks after Parker.[10]
- J. B. Smoove[11]
- Jacob Batalon as Ned: Parker's best friend.[12]
- Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington: Parker's academic decathlon teacher.[13][14]
- Marisa Tomei as May Parker: Parker's aunt who is fully aware of and embraces his secret identity as Spider-Man.[15][16]
- Jake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck / Mysterio: An expert on the Elementals who is recruited by Nick Fury to help Spider-Man to stop them.[17] Regarding Beck's relationship with Parker, Watts says that "If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle."[6]
Additionally, several actors reprise their roles, including Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes / Vulture, Tony Revolori as Parker's rival Eugene "Flash" Thompson,[18] Angourie Rice as Parker's classmate Betty Brant,[19], Laura Harrier as Toomes' daughter and Parker's former classmate Liz,[20] and Hemky Madera as Mr. Delmar, the owner of a local bodega.[21] Numan Acar has been cast as Dimitri,[22] while Oli Hill,[18] Remy Hii,[23] and Zach Barack have been cast in undisclosed roles.[24]
