Plot

Soon after Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to disintegrate half of all life,[N 1] Carol Danvers rescues Tony Stark and Nebula and returns them to Earth. They reunite with the remaining Avengers—Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, Rocket, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, and James Rhodes— to retake the Infinity Stones and reverse the disintegrations. They confront Thanos, but find that he has destroyed the Stones. Thor kills Thanos.
Five years later, Scott Lang escapes from the quantum realm.[N 2] At the Avengers' compound, he explains that five years had been only five hours for him, and proposes building a quantum realm time machine. Stark refuses to help out of fear of undoing the birth of his daughter, who was born after the disintegration. After talking with his wife, Pepper Potts, Stark relents and with Banner, successfully builds a time machine. Banner and Rocket recruit Thor from the home of the Asgardian refugees. Romanoff recruits Clint Barton, now a ruthless vigilante after his family was disintegrated.
